The Institute of Translation & Interpreting, rather than the Institute of Translators & Interpreters, represents the entire industry and welcomes reputable translation companies, in-house translation departments, university translation and languages departments and other international organisations that have an interest in translation and interpreting.
This has reflected ITI’s outlook since the Institute was founded in 1986, and they continue to believe that the interests of the whole industry are best served by a single organisation that constantly seeks to maintain and raise standards.
We hold the Language Service Business corporate membership. Requirements for this membership are:
- Eligibility – At least two years of current trading as a business offering translation or interpreting services and employing translators or interpreters under a contract of services.
- References from at least two clients and references from at least three freelance translators or interpreters, of whom at least one must be a qualified member of the Institute.
- Applicants must hold professional indemnity insurance
We have been corporate members of the ITI since August 2011, after being vetted and screened as a business that the ITI would be eligible to work with, meeting the industrial requirements of their membership.
‘All corporate members who are working with the ITI must be a business offering translation or interpreting services and employing translators or interpreters under a contract of services. References from at least two clients and three freelance translators or interpreters are sought before accepting membership. Language Empire meets these requirements and has been registered with us since August 2011.’
